This was a spontaneous shot last evening.
I was browsing the net and "sippin"...... and the idea for this image you see came to me.
On the monitor was one of my evening shots from Atlantic City.
It didn't dawn on me that I could use this as a backdrop til after I shot about 10 images.

This is what she Flipped me !!

Strange thngs happen sometimes when it comes to photography.
I'm walking along a trail in a semi wooded area, and come across this pretty blue bird .
Me being Mr. National Geographic Photographer couldn't pass this up
Almost had it perfectly comped in frame...... and she turned around and "flipped me one" LOL LOL
I managed to snap this single image.
At first I wasn't going to use it, but if you look at it on the larger versions, you can see just enough of the head of the bird, and one of it's eyes in almost clear focus.

Believe it ...Or Not

Atlantic City Boardwalk
Originally uploaded by RayBanBro66
This shot was taken freehand on the boardwalk one evening last week.
I was surprised myself to see the shot is virtually "shake free", being that I was walking the boardwalk, and shooting freehand without any tripod. And this is only at ISO800 speed.
Keep in mind the temperature had started to drop, and the cold air blowing off the Atlantic Ocean was starting to cut through me. So I was basically walking...and shivering , trying to get back to my car parked not too far away. And on top of that, trying to keep the camera just steady enough to take a half way decent shot .
As the sign says in the picture........ Believe It or Not

Looked very surreal, and I was hoping to capture the magic of the moment.

The pigeon decided he wasn't waiting around for scraps of crumbs on the boardwalk. So he took it to the next level... going straight to the source.

Seagulls in flight

Why I didn't "crop" this image.
First off..... there will be some that say... all the sand in the foreground isn't "necessary" , and had this been "their" picture, they would have cropped it down some.... which believe it or not gives you a whole different image.
If you look a little more closely ..... you'll notice how there's almost an equal amount of the sky, ocean and sand in the image. Sort of like 3 different bands of colors running horizontal in the image. And then the lovely seagulls were captured right in the middle "band" of color..in this case the ocean.
My advice to you.......
Look before you crop :)

The cold weather was playing a huge factor in my decision.
With bulky clothing, gloves, lugging equipment etc, that can be a chore in itself
Well, it was a 'balmy' 50 or so degrees yesterday, so I packed up my gear and headed down there.
I captured some interesting images, which of course I'll share some of the better ones with YOU :)
In this particular image, i was shooting at knee level.. Now grant it, had this been summertime, I would have probably laid down flat on my stomach to shoot this. But the sand was cold and damp.... and I didn't want to mess up my leather coat LOL LOL

Laundry

Laundry
Originally uploaded by RayBanBro66
Probably my last shot for the evening.
Was doing laundry and had the camera dangling around my neck .
Looked in the washer ..... and immediately went into shutter priority mode.
Looking at this image reminds me of an ocean wave, breaking on shore.
So now I have the urge to take a drive down to Atlantic City tomorrow morning to capture some seaside scenery.
I love doing this in warmer weather, so I'd love to see what I could produce in the winter off season.
Only thing is the brutal cold air blowing off of the ocean. Tomorrow's highs is expected to be 47...and that's in the Philadelphia region. Usually it's about 10 degrees colder down by the shore, and this isn't including the windchill factor.
I'm on vacation this week and really don't feel like getting up early. My ideal time to shoot down there would be around the dawn hours.
From where I would like to shoot, the sun will be coming up over the horizon, and I can only imagine the colors in the sky I could get from that.
I also had some other photo ideas in mind for down there. Normally I've only snapped images with my smaller point and shoot Canon Powershot A470 while I was down there. This time ....... I'm gonna "bring it" from a whole new perspective so to speak.
I'll have my bangin DSLR Canon EOS Rebel XS probably with my 75-300mm lens attached..... and then it's "ON" !!! :)
If I dress like how I did for the Whistle Stop tour..... It shouldn't be too much of a problem. My 4GB Sansa Fuze MP3 player is loaded up with stuff to keep me in "a zone" while photoshooting, and walking.
So do check back to see if I made it down there.

Twitter this in 140 or less

So, it's been a couple days since I've been out...or "in" shooting images
Been really busy uploading Obama pics.
Figured I'd take a break from all that and get back into the action
Once again, i decided to shoot at 35millimeter .
I was really looking for a different shot when I snapped this image. Was hoping to catch a reflection of my eye in the Zippo lighter that you see me holding there.
I took about 5 shots before realizing that no matter how I angled the lighter to catch my reflection, the camera was too big and that shot just wasn't possible. (except with maybe a tripod)
So I just went and continued shooting other stuff.... which I'll upload later in the day.
When I downloaded the images....... I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT !!! There's the poster in the background of a model.... and in the upper right hand corner of the lighter is the reflection of my fingers in a unique position.

Change has come to America

.... The man who would be President.
This is President Barack Obama 3 days before the Inauguration.
I shot this in Wilmington Delaware when he and now Vice President Joe
Biden made a stop there as part of the historic Whistle Stop Tour.
In this image he is obviously speaking passionately about his vision for America.

My favorite quote from the Inauguration today was ...

" As for our common defense, WE REJECT as FALSE, the choice between our safety and our ideals"

He spoke that sentence with conviction, and it was a clear message to the rest of the world ...especially to those that would threaten to bring harm to the United States, and our interests.

The 44th President..Barack Obama

Today has marked a truly historical moment in American history.
The 44th President , Barack H Obama, was sworn into office today.
While I witnessed this event on television, I was fortunate to have been a part of history at his Whistle Stop Tour in Wilmington Delaware on 1/17/2009
It was there that I snapped this following image.
I considered myself Blessed and fortunate to have been so close to the podium to capture these stunning images.

I had a thought that we were in The Matrix (you'll have to watch the movie to understand if you're not a fan). The wires all overhead... and the two railroad lights you see could be the Sentry's guarding it.

( I filed the following report with NowPublic.com, a Canadian based social news gathering service based in Vancouver. Occasionally I share some of my photos as well as file "on the scene" news worthy reports with them when warranted. In exchange, I get free international exposure (no pun intended) of my Urban Perspective ( photography)

President elect Barack Obama made a historic trip by rail on a pre Inaugaural Whistle Stop tour, 3 days before the Inauguration

The second major stop along the tour was in Wilmington Delaware. There he picked up former Senator Joe Biden and his wife to continue this trip down to Baltimore, and eventually to Washington DC

Thousands of Americans including myself stood in bitter subfreezing temperatures hoping to get a glimpse of the new President.

He spoke briefly of Vice President elect Joe Biden's accomplishments in Delaware, and his many years of faithful service there.

He also touched on his own personal journey from the Illinois State Capitol to this pre inaugaural Whistle Stop Tour, and assured the crowd he was grateful and thankful for their support.

Towards the end of his speech, he and his immediate entourage, including Michelle Obama, Joe Biden and his wife, stepped into the crowd to personally shake hands with well wishing supporters.

I'm honored to have been a part of this historic event, and stood within 100 feet of the podium , for some spectacular images I photoshot. I will treasure these images of this nostalgic trip into the Future, for many years to come

harbor texture- taken by raybanbro66

This is an image that was shot by me on Penn's Landing in Philadelphia.
I have a photographer friend in Baltimore ....George Brown III, that is a master at tone mapping and texturizing images in post production ie (photoshop). He can transform "ordinary" good photographic images into awesome pieces of art.
I've given him the verbal OK and my blessing to see what creations he can come up with from some of my more interesting images .
So this is basically a fun collaboration between us where he gives me credit for the image taken (my screen name on Flickr is RayBanBro66), and he properly credits himself for the post production such as toning, texturizing, etc...
If I like the final work.... which 10 times out of 10 I will :) , I'll blog the final product (image), and that particular image will link back to his photostream.
I strongly urge you to click on this image to take you straight to HIS photostream. Your mouth will drop open when you see some of the masterpieces he's created from some of his own personal photos.
For the nay-sayers, because you know there's always gonna be few of them out there, wondering why I would allow this.......
Once I include the link to my {{{BLOG}}} on the final image... it drives more people potentially to my blog or photostream. I looked at my stats after this was posted, and my numbers shot waaay up there.
And it's also more exposure for George's work as well.
As we both agreed on the phone.... this shouldn't be a competitive thing (photography.... especially amongst friends) We should be able to go out and shoot and have FUN doing it. Maybe help one another out with different suggestions to BETTER our individual styles.
If photography ever became a "chore".... then it defeats the whole purpose as far as I'm concerned.
Anyways, hope you enjoy the image I'm posting today.
If you're new to my {{{BLOG}}} , or linking over from George's photostream, please be sure to check out previous blog posts of photos I've blogged from my own Flickr photostream

Had just got in from work and pulled the curtain back in the back room and... voila!!! There it was..... a pretty sunset.
Originally the sun was actually in the sk(visible), and it was setting fast.
My camera was still in the bag.... in another room with a smaller lens on it. So now I'm scrambling, changing lenses, as well as UV (ultraviolet filter)
By the time I got back to the back room , and this was in less than 5 minutes getting everything "prepped"....... that darn sun had disappeared behind the clouds, and below the horizon (in this particular image)
There was this unique orange ball shaped glow, and I captured it on "film" (sounds better than saying I captured it on "memory card" LOL)
Anyways, if you click on the image you'll see the larger size of this. Or even better..... check out the ORIGINAL size as well, to see the effect I'm talking about.
It isn't a flare effect from the sun either on the lens. It was actually in the sky.
Oh.... and if you're ever lost in the blogosphere and become disoriented.... you can always refer to this image for a geographical "fix" (co-ordinates) since this image is indeed facing "West" :)

In either case I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone, and snap a few images as well.
This is a personal fave from that series .

So last night it was snowing, and I gave it a shot (pardon the pun) anyways going handheld. I kept my 18-55mm lens on since it's the one with Image Stabilization. Oh.... and I kept it at 35mm focal length :)

Just something nostalgic about that focal length.
In keeping with the theme (nostalgia) I decided to tone this image manually in black and white.
Of course you can just click on the image to see it larger and in much better detail when you're done reading this.
Oh.... the title inspiration?? ..... it's feline in nature :)

Glass of merlot

Glass of merlot

I shot this one with the same 36mm (millimeter) focal lengh (see previous blog posts for 35 mm mea culpa) settings this evening .
I can't tell you the difficulty in trying to tip the glass...and keep the bikini chick in somewhat recognizable "form".
Then keep in mind.... I'm holding the glass with one hand... and camera in the other, peering through some tiny viewfinder window. I'm hand held, low ISO 100 on purpose...AND somewhat slow shutter speed. Try keepin a steady hand yourself when you try this :)
But I lucked out........ :)
Probably the synchro flash as well as this particular lens being an I.S. (image stabilization) lens....I was able to pull this shot off.... with few attempts :)
I invite you now to share this glass of Mondavi merlot with me..... by clicking directly on the image to see this in a larger size, and black background....

"Cheers" :)

Just thinking about some plans I have for my business this year.
All is looking UP and positive on that front :)

Technical mumbo jumbo... not necessarily to be read by all......you've been warned.......
I'm still in that nostalgic 35mm (Milli meter) frame of mind.
I did see the " | " marker on the body of the camera. However on the actual lens itself..... it's difficult to line up the "correct" ridge with that marker for dead on point 35mm.
Case in point, after shooting yesterday at 34mm... I turned the lens slightly to the next "upraised" notch on the lens. Would you believe this put me at 36mm???. So next set of images I'll try the "indented" groove instead to get 35mm settings EXACT!!
(I already told you this was technical mumbo jumbo not necessarily to be read by all. You were warned ) :)

(((((( YAWN )))))))))) Good Evening :)

It Once Served a Purpose

Don't all things at one time or another? :)
I don't know what the heck "THIS" was used for.... but it's aged "a bit" LOL.
It weighs more than 5 pounds easily.
Saw it laying around while I was looking for things to shoot ...... which now serves my purpose :)
Be sure to clik on the image to view this in a larger size and on a black background.

I Bumped into This

I literally bumped into this image :)
I'm sure you'll appreciate it better, once you clik on the image to this in larger version and on a black background

But just to .... calm your eyes down for a moment :)
What you're looking at is a tomato cage right in front of you. When you click on the image... you'll see the serpentine like vine creepin and winding it's way around the cage from the top. ..... at least I THINK it's a vine....
just go ask EVE :)
