This is a profound and poignant (poy-knee-ent) image to me.
I shot this the day after I set my loving cat Sasha "free" from this life.
It symbolizes a mutual communication we "spoke" with our eyes in that final moment...and then she was free.....
I love you Sasha ......
Goodbye... until we meet again

My Transformation
This has been a trying time of my "being" over the past couple of days.
I shot the following image from my bedroom window.
If I remember , I was zoomed in max, and the glowing ball of sunshine was to the right of the image, just outside of "frame"
That line you see running through the middle is a venetian blind.
I liked how it all came together and manually sepia toned to produce this final image.
Please be sure to view it in a larger size , and on a black background if you clik directly on the image

The Piano
This isn't really the shot I wanted....but it's close.
My cousin's house was full of company on Christmas, so I was looking for interesting things...besides people to photograph.
If you've looked in my photostream (on Flickr), you'll see that most of my pics are of objects, architecture, geometric shapes, and street photography.
Yes, street photography does include "people".... but it's all spontaneous.
I do photograph people, such as family gatherings, portraits, etc..... and I get enjoyment out of that as well... HOWEVER.... as great as those images turn out, I can't really share them in my blog or Flickr.
Think about it....... do you really want to see a picture of somebody you don't know? Unless of course they're doing something interesting.
When I'm browsing thru Flickr's millions of images, guess which ones I browse right over? Yup... family photos of strangers.
So, whenever I upload to my blog.... or to Flickr, I always try to keep the general public in mind as to what MIGHT capture their eye.
Had the house been empty with just my cousin and his immediate family, I would have asked to move things out of the way to produce the image I really had in mind.... as well as to photo THE HANDS of my younger cousin as she plays it flawlessly.
This one came out nice though for the time and space I had to work with.
Be sure to click on the image to see the larger version, and on a black background ....if you choose.

Philly Skyline
had some free time on my hands to experiment :)
Check it out on a black background and larger if you click the image.
I was kinda going for a chic (sheek), futuristic ...contemporary look.
Yeah, I know that's a bit much for some of you...

Philadelphia Skyline
Shot this one from the Belmont Plateau on a brisk December morning.
I kinda waited on purpose til the clouds had drifted over the skyline
Hope you clik on the image to see it in a larger version, and on a black background.
Perhaps you're from the Philly area..... and this shot reminds you of being "back home"
...Or you could be a visitor. In that case, The City of Brotherly Love welcomes you.

Cat in a Window
It's an overcast morning, but I still saw "something" that caught my eye.
I took about 15 shots, from different angles..... zoomed in all "tight" so just the cat was filling the frame, and few other (comp)osures.
They were the same old boring pics of a cat that you've seen a million times before. (That's just my opinion)
What made this one stand out from the series is.... the surreal looking sky in the reflection of the window.
You'll appreciate it better once you click on the image to view this in a larger size, and on a black background.
I could have also cropped out the blurred tree branch in the bottom right hand corner....but... it kind of balances out what the cat has his eyes fixated on.

Blacklight Mystery
Here's another "fav" of mine that I shot this evening.
When you click on this to see this in the larger size... and you will... LOL....
that slight "blur" you see above the lightbulb is NOT from camera shake.
It's really the light waves coming off of the bulb.
Anyways, I liked the mystery that surrounds this image.
**more technical mumbo jumbo".... So I'm still experimenting with ISO 100, but switched a couple parameters, including light metering, aperature settings.
and a few other little tweeks here and there. Obviously no flash was used to produce this image, and this was actually done freehand.

Play"fool" mood
These just happen to be two of my favorite pasttimes..
It was just by pure luck that this image got framed this way. And if you look at the edge of the poster and one of the pegs on the guitar head, you'll see the illusiion I'm referring to.
The indentation on the edge of the poster is actually part of the poster image.. it just so happened that the guitar was framed almost perfect to make it look like it was making the indentation on the poster.
I'm telling you, I didn't even see that till the end of the day after I downloaded the images.
I remember being more busy with how much of the guitar I could fit in frame, AND keep the poster of the chess board in frame as well.
But I'm happy with the final image.... and since I was in a play "fool" mood, I decided to manually sepia color tone the image for ambience

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumm
(Remember to click on the image to see this in a larger , detailed version ..either now, or at the end of this post..)
Happened to look out the bedroom window and saw "these two".
Look at em...keepin balance on icy coated telephone wire perched way above the pavement.
Truthfully, I was looking for icicle patterns to shoot, and started zooming in and caught "Tweedle Dee" in the bottom left hand corner of the frame.
Since I had him in focus..and at a fast shutter speed with SDoF, I had to start shooting. Good thing I did, cause it the next instant or so..... they took off.

Blacklight @ ISO 100
Well, when it's dreary weather outside, there's ALWAYS plenty to shoot and experiment with indoors
I recently read an article about ISO 100 and low light setttings, so I did some of my own hands on "research" most of the weekend, experimenting with ISO 100.
This happens to be one of my favs from the shots I took over the past couple days.
The only lighting in the room was coming from the venetian blinds in the background, and the black light bulb.
This shot was taken hand held...... and came out in relatively "clean" focus. I do have an I.S. lens, so that could have played a major factor for a more focused shot.
But I'll tell you...... it took a few shots here and there in various Av, and Tv modes to settle with this one. Obviously shooting at such a low ISO with no flash, or tripod was challenging. But that's what I enjoy about this craft.
Please sure to click on the image to see this in a larger version and on a black background

Christmas Ornaments
Nothing says Christmas in my family, than a visit to my grandmother's apartment ;)
If you're Grinchin or Scrooging...... one look at her tree will bring in the Christmas spirit if you happen to observe this holiday.
It takes my grandmother most of the day to decorate the tree. But the end result is ALWAYS beautiful !!
So we (the family) give her a "pass" when she decides to keep it up welllll into the New Year. Almost til the end of January. I don't blame her either. :)
I'm in the process now of uploading some of those photos to hopefully put you in the Holiday spirit, if you're feeling kind of down.
As usual, just click on the photo to see the rest of what I have to offer you for your viewing pleasure. As well as to view most of these images in a larger size and on a black background.
Happy Holidays to you all....... wherever you are in the WORLD :)

Sneakers On Wires
Look... up in the sky.... it's a Bird..no ...it's a Plane....nooo it's ....
Nowadays though you'll see Timbs, shoes, and anything else that can be tossed up there
Have you seen this in your neighborhood? Chances are the answer is "Yes"
Is there some reward for getting them to stay up there?
Maybe they placed bets on how many attempts it would take to get em up there.
One only wanders what fate awaits the ones being worn now.

"THE EL"
Snapped this one as it rattled overhead on the tracks above.
I was seated in my car, and pulled over to the side of the road around the 48th & Market St area in West Philly. It's alot of construction going on along this stretch of tracks.
Anyways, I was taking images of the work going on underneath ...when I heard the train. I had to quickly switch from AV mode to Tv mode...for a steadier shot. Had I had that tripod.... I would have gone for that slower shutter to blur just the train. Didn't want to waste my time knowing that no matter how steady I "think" I might be able hold the camera steady the whole image STILL would have turned out "shaky"
Another opiton I considered was that AI Servo function. Keep in mind, I'm sitting in my driver's seat... window down... telephoto lens pointed up on some street corner in WEST PHILLY!! ROFL!! I guess the fact that I notoriously sport dark RayBan frames added to the whole mysitque of "who is THAT??" parked on the corner.
And then on top of that... I'm fidgity with the buttons and all on the camera, tryin to get it all "right" while THE EL is fast approaching my spot
I like the end result though....
** A Friendly Reminder**

U Say Sumthin ?
Ok, calm down......... it's only an image LOL
Ready for the "kicker" (pardon the pun)
The person wearing these boots is a FEMALE !!!
I dare not go into it any further....but you can || READ || on that one :)
It happened to be one of those spur of the moment shots that afternoon.
The weather was mild for a mid December. And secretly I was looking for some excuse to get outside with my CANON EOS REBEL :)
Had contractors installing windows, so I was confined to a certain perimeter of the house..(for shooting purposes)
One of my "ole headz" pulled up in his Mitsubishi... and was bangin that Curtis Mayfield.
So the vibe was right for snappin away.

"Windows Operating System.....For Dummies"
This is IT.. in it's rawest purest form :)
How many remember the old school wooden framed windows? The old weight n balance, chain n pulley system.
Then they had a little metal latch for "security". If you were lucky, the window closed "evenly" so you could fit the latch in place.
And it was always an annoying rattling sound when the wind blew. I learned how to wedge a small piece of cardboard between the window and frame to eliminate that.

Not Always Greener on the Other Side
HA !!
I left this image untitled for a day cause I couldn't come up with a title for it.
Then it dawned on me while looking at it again just now......
I was on knee level for this shot. I did consider prone (lying flat down on my stomach), but didn't want to mess up my good leather coat. I think this angle is just as effective.
Maybe if Santa brings me a Canon Macro lens, I'll shoot another patch in extreme close up detail with that high powered magnification lens.
But then again, I don't want to spend all that money only to find out.....

"A Clear Message"
.... Lately I've been hearing all this talk about "Swagga" (swagger)
Shot this image "around the way".....
To some , this is just another "how it is" around here moment.
And to others ..... it's a clear message
Think ya got swagga ? Come "around the way" :)

Witches Brew
It sure looks like it doesn't it? :)
You can almost see some old hag stirring her cauldron of "this and that"
This image is really some old bucket of water in an alley. It's now got this "scum" of some sort on top of the water. And the stick was already in there.
Besides the colorful pattern of the "scum" on the surface, i thought the reflection from the trees on the water made for a compelling image.
Please be sure to click on the image to see this in a larger version and on a black background.
(I know some of my "fans" wander why I always include the click on the image for larger sizes statement on all of my posts, but keep in mind my blog is seen daily around the world ( I love the latter part of what I just said) ...for the first time for some people. That's why I include that statement)
**Technical mumbo jumbo** (You don't really have to read this part if you don't want to) I didn't want to "wash out" the colorful pattern of the top layer of scum on the water, so I shot this image without the flash, and went into Av (Aperture priority mode) That EXIF info is listed on my Flickr page for this image (you'll have to clik on "Properties" to view that info. Time of day was around sunset, so the daylight was fast fading, however, it was just enough to capture the reflection of the trees as well as colors on the water. I actually chose a small aperature (F14) I think, because there was a slight breeze causing ripples on the water, and I did want a little bit more depth of field than a larger aperature would have provided. I did try a larger aperature (using a standard 18mm-55mm focal length lens) at a much closer range to the water. But that yielded a completely new image..... and not as interesting as the final one I chose.

Leaving The Planet
Well, I was shooting in Philadelphia up on the Belmont Plateau . I looked up in the sky and saw the following image.
Now meteors and other falling objects from outer space have extending "trails"moving in a direction towards Earth. Usually the "thicker" end of the trail is pointed downward towards the Earth ...while the rest of it fades off and gets narrower.
But not this image..........
The trajectory of this object is too steep for a commercial aircraft. Unless the major airlines have now started handing out G suits to it's passengers.
I can only conclude that this was some sort of military aircraft... or even a rocket.
Laugh if you will at my rocket theory.... but keep in mind the curvature of the Earth. & rockets launched from overseas now passing over our point of view
...or was it something else?

Dramatic Sunset
WOW!! I just happened to catch what was going on here out the corner of my eye.
It looked like 3 suns reflected in the window across the street.
Too good an image to pass up (and just some excuse to use the telephoto lens).
It's amazing how you can find pretty things... in not so pretty places. :)
This image didn't cost me hotel and air accomadations to some sun drenched beach in the Maldeves :)
Nope, this shot was an "all inclusive" deal right here in the neigborHOOD :)
Check it out in the larger sizes by clicking on the image.

Where'd the tracks go?
I like this optical illusion.
I originally shot some long depth of field (LDoF) of the tracks, but I think this was the more compelling image.
"We're" looking at a hill. You can see the houses and school buses in the background at the bottom of the "hill" (of course you'll have to click on the image to see the larger versions or to view it on a black background.

Car Antenna
This has got to be some "chick's" car. I never saw an antenna done this way before.
Normally you see the stupid Mickey Mouse ears, or a golf ball.
But this owner took it to a whole new level.
Anyways, hope you enjoy this one as much as I did when I snapped the image.

Controversial Crop
OK... If you clicked over from Flickr (thank you)... I'll try to get into why I titled it that
If you're already lost in the blogsphere...in particular mine :) , please click on the image to see this in larger detail and on a black background.
So obviously it's an image of some stalk of weed in the backyard grass
Some might argue to crop this image closer to the stalk of weed. That also made for a nice image. However...... it's the "thing" on the bottom left hand corner that kind of balances out the two stalks on the right side of the image. (it will make more sense when you see the larger image)
Controversial ? Depends on how you "see" it

Tight lipped :)
Doesn't it sorta remind you of that.. or your forefinger and thumb "pinched" closed ..... anyways, that's how I came up with the title
This bud ...which was shot in the spring was seconds away from bursting forth in blossom.
I shot this one free hand..... and this was probably one of the better images from that series. **Mea Culpa** (the hand couldn't stay steady enough to keep it pristine clear, due to natural involuntary movement)

[ A Shady Corner
I love the daily play of sunlight and shadow.....
I liked how the sun was setting in the Olde City district of Philadelphia that afternoon. It was casting these long shadows.
I could almost bet some sick twisted individual could accurately tell the time of day by these particular shadows ...give or take by a tenth of a second .
He or ...she.... would probably have made a mental mark of the shadow on the iron beams running across the image. They could... in theory...use that as a "clock"
The way some see it..... if we can't trust our eyes, whom or what can we trust?

On the Edge of night
Some haunting image I done conjured up LOL
So having been sick most of the week (see previous blog Under The Weather) to really get you in MY mood and frame of mind :) I've been confined to the house mostly and haven't really had the chance and capture some great images. (with the new camera)
I go out to my backyard.... what I affectionately now call my OUTBACK... meaning I go out back .
Anyways, I've actually been able to capture some nice images out there, as well as give me some more practice with my telephoto lens.

Les Miserable, Scrooge, Grinch,Gargamel, Ba-hum-bug... guess who's been feeling really crappy with the flu .... yeah... you got it.... me
This image I snapped last month kind o sums up how I've been feeling physically all week. MISERABLE
Some bug or flu germ that I acquired from somewhere. UGH.....
Earlier in the week it was the inflamed sore throat feelin... hot, burning, raw...... saliva feels like acid when you swallow feeling.... but you just deal with it.
Now "it's" moved into the nasal cavity. Head's all clogged, with the occasional muffled hearing..
Oh... and let's not forget the entire body feeling completely "worked over" kinda feeling. And every little thing that annoys you when you're feeling well is now TEN TIMES amplified.
It's cold outside... and it's been rainy and dampness in the air to boot just to really add insult to injury. UGH......
I snapped this image last month (NOV) while sitting in my car in a parking lot. These are really raindrops on my windshield, with a view of the parking lot in the background. You'll appreciate this better once you clik directly on the image to view the larger sizes and on a black background.
I originally called this image "Missing You" , I think that day, I was feeling melancholy and had SADE (shar-day) on in the background..
This seemed like such the appropriate title for this image... with the raindrops being symbolic for teardrops.
Hope this cheers you up as well LOL LOL LOL

"This is Y"
I love finding these strange geometric patterns. They make for interesting photo compositions.
This was shot in a courtyard in the Olde City District of Philadelphia.

By Air and Sea
This is probably one of my newest favorites.
This was shot on Penn's Landing in Philadelphia. They have a few tall ships docked there, including the famous Moshulu.
Philly International Airport isn't that far away, and this particular airplane is probably on final approach to the runway.
I thought the whole sunset kinda vibe through the ship masts made for an interesting image.
You'll even see a few small birds perched here and there along the masts.

Arch St
So as I was framing this, I was kinda disappointed that I couldn't fit in the full National Constitution Center Sign.
I figured I''d just frame and comp as much as I could, and cross my fingers.
When I was browsing through my images again, I realized that the Arch Street sign under the huge "arch" of the architecture made for a more compelling image.
I probably could have cropped the image , but then the street sign "Independence St" under the Arch Street sign wouldn't have made as much sense.

Her Zane Dream Never Come True
I like how some women live their "fantasies" through the steamy novels of the author known as Zane
This is my own cynical take on it .....
....Her Zane Dream Never Come True
This image here is obviously a "lady's" dresser.... with her "dream man" all aglow. Six pack... chiseled muscles.... but guess who she's stuck with .......(click this to hear me laughing) ROFL!!!
Anyways, much love to Zane and her erotica novels. I put a link to her website and blog to check her out if you're interested.
You'll have to click on the image first though.... to get to that
info and see the larger sizes (look at you women...... probably didn't even wait to read the last part of that sentence, and already clicked over) LOL

Rocky's Last Stand
It's amazing seeing some of the "wildlife" right out in my backyard.
I try to picture myself as this National Geographic staff Photographer ...tryin to catch the shot.
I love using my telephoto lens. It makes me FEEL professional. And hearing the familiar 35mm camera sound as I snap the shutter button just confirms why I got into this.
Anyways, I'm now starting to shoot exclusively in either Av or Tv mode, depending on my need when the moment calls for it.
I was tracking the life of this squirrel most of the afternoon

Blacklight Afternoon
It's been so cold out, I haven't had the chance to shoot outdoors as frequently.
So I'll have to bring it inside for a bit ........ and I'm more than sure I can still show you an interesting side of life...from my perspective
In this image is some SPENCER'S gifts Blacklite lightbulb.
You can pretty much figure the rest out LOL LOL

" 'Some Figment of her Imagination"
Experimenting again with blacklight.
Naturally I was in Aperature Priority Mode . I kind of liked the effect of the natural light mixing with the ultraviolet light against the poster.
And then I chuckled to myself lookin at Mr Muscle Head in the background. ........
.....some figment of her imagination
I guess by now all the ladies will have clicked on the image looong before being told they could do so LOL

"Chick Flick Clique"
This one is for y'all.
Everything about this image has "chick" written all over it.
I was putting my telephoto lens to work when I shot this.
It's a street crossing in downtown metro Philadelphia.

"My Own little Cube-ah"
I looked at this image as I framed it from an artitistic standpoint. Every thing is "cubed" or square about this image. I guess that falls into the category of cubism.
I didn't really notice the "square" pattern on the back of the vest til I downloaded it.
I know all of this is kind of abstract for alot of you.......
But I like photography that's going to be compelling in some way.
Hope you enjoy this image.

In a Certain Frame of Mind
The title describes my whole mood these days. Just feel upbeat about all the positive energy I'm putting out there and attracting back.
I shot this image from a parking garage through the chain link fence.
That is the Comcast tower looming in the background. I find it kind of symbolic that they own one of the tallest buildings in the City of Philadelphia.... as well as most of the subscriptions for cable services.

"Mom and Rusty"
As I was touchin this photo up, I tried Sepia toning.
What a Kick a$$ shot!!!
That's my grandMOM and cousin Rusty sitting there all content and full off of Thanksgiving turkey LOL
When I saw it all there on the monitor,.... I thought this simple title.. Mom and Rusty summed up everything about this image including the Sepia toning.

Peaceful Protest
I was in the right place at the right time I guess :) Just happened to be in the Love Park section of Philadelphia this past weekend. I heard tuba, and a chant coming from the direction of the Ben Franklin Parkway. Luckily I was already equipped with my telephoto lens already mounted, so I started snapping away.
Over the past couple of months, with the national financial crisis wrecking havoc, this put Philadelphia as well as other metro cities in a crisis as well.
Mayor Michael Nutter, in an effort to balance the city budget has proposed to close.... that's right .... CLOSE 15 City Libraries. Well you know that hasn't gone over well with the city at all.
So this was a march in protest to that proposed budget cut. I don't think this march got any real "PRESS" in the Philly Metro Area .
Be sure to click on the photo to see the larger sizes of this, and other shots from that march on my Flickr page

The Silver Surfer Rides Again
Down in the Love Park section of Philadelphia.
This is a known skateboard mecca in the entire world. No joke. It even appears in video games...that's how HUGE this park is , in the underground world of skateboarding.
Anyways, I was getting more accustomed to shooting with the telephoto lens. I liked this capture the best. To me, it looks like he's surfin the wind.... all airborne and free
I thought the Silver Surfer reference would be the finishing touch. He (The Silver Surfer) wasn't as popular as let's say Batman, Spidey, or the Green Hornet. Kinda has his own cult like following..... sorta like in the skateboarding circles.
Remember, you can always clik directly on the image to see the larger version of this image

Side Street Hustle
Felt like workin my telephoto lens for a little bit.... and look at what i captured :)
When I framed the shot, I was in shutter priority mode (Tv) , because I wanted to catch the pigeons if they suddenly took off.
I'm getting more accustomed
to shooting in manual mode with this camera
Anyways, I did see the refection of the car as I framed and snapped the image.
I was more than pleasantly surprised after downloading to see the beauty in this image. Which to me is the long depth of field in the reflection on the wall, and how the columns seem to trail into infinity.
And then to top it off, the incidental "bokeh" on the brake lights
(you can now clik on the image to see the larger versions of this

Every once in awhiles I have the difficult task of taking these sorts of shots to draw in more visitors to my blog, and flickr portfolio.
It never fails.... I've seen my stat counter soar after posting up something like this. ...and heck... it makes me feel good that after my hard toil and labor taking these shots, that they are appreciated :)
Anyways, welcome to my crazy little blog.
I try to keep it fresh for you guys, with some of my photo shots.
My current photos are now being shot with the new Canon EOS Rebel XS.

Balancing Act
Life can get tough at times....
Here we have a young lady walkin a fine line high overhead....
Wait a minute.... that's no lady !! LOL
This is inside the Comcast Tower Monolith...errr... I mean skyscraper in downtown Philadelphia.
I'm looking "up" in this shot through the windows in the lobby.
They placed these statuettes at strategic places on the beams above for a nice effect.

Bicycle Levitation
So I've had my new camera for over a week, and getting adjusted to it.
I've been experimenting more with the Manual Settings, to allow for more control and creativity of my shots.
Today, took another stroll in downtown Philly.
I thought this was the coolest illusion when I saw it. Matter of fact I did a double take .......
