If I remember, this particular store is or was going out of business
and had a clearance sale..... statues included...

I didn't take home any statues.... just a memory.... "immortalized in a photo"

Ye Olde Pump n Fountain

But over at the Philadelphia Zoo, if you're strollin along the right path, you will happen upon this treasure ;)

Nothing beats a "warm" stream of water from an old water fountain spigot on a hot day. Even the pump in the background is "functional" or at least appeared to be.

Anyways, I wanted to keep the vintage feel of the spigot and pump, so I experimented in Photoshop and was content with this. There's still a sense of modernism witht he color I left in. I thought an all black n white or vintage sepia toned for the whole image would have been "cliche"

This particular one put on a little show for the crowd that gathered.
it was hot, humid, and this one was rolling around in the murky pond keepin cool.

Guess Who Got the Last Laugh ?

Sort of a cynical abstract view of this place

I shot this inside the historic Eastern State Penitentiary .
Looking up as I did to the upper tier in this cellblock,
I noticed a cynicism in the way the light shines through barred windows

.... sort of a laughter at the fact that there's no escaping
here........

The zookeepers let him out of the cage for "flight" training.
It's amazing that he stayed within a certain perimeter, and didn't just fly the coop :)

Darwin Theory... Gone Wild

Made a spontaneous trip to the Philadelphia Zoo this past weekend.
I anticipated a new bird attraction, but it isn't set to debut to the public til later this week on 5/30/2009 The McNeil Avian Center Therefore, I will make a trip back ;)
Most fans of my photography note that I am an avid bird enthusiast , and enjoy using my favorite "bird" lens , as I so have nicknamed this lens : The Canon EF 75-300mm f/4 - 5.6 III lens to capture bird life
Anyways, I was inside the Primate house at the Philadelphia Zoo and shot this looking behind glass.
This "primate" probably has some fancy scientific name for it.... but it's still a damn monkey in my book !! ROFL!!

I shot some interesting stuff in the park and surrounding area, and will upload those as time permits.

She's already performed at THE APOLLO in Harlem, NYC. Won 1st place the first time around, and placed 3rd on her last visit.
As we know, 3rd time is the charm!! :) She'll be performing live and on stage at the Apollo theater again on Jun 24th.
For those that don't know.... The Apollo theater is where many African American RnB artists are "made" or broken.
The other day when we were on location in Philly for a photog shoot, I asked her how this felt.... to perform at the Apollo in front of a tough New York City crowd. She just casually acted like it was no big deal :)
Can u imagine... bein on that stage..... 5 boroughs of NYC residents converged in one place ready to eat you alive if you show any sign of weakness? I'm sure you've seen it on formerly televised shows.
Anyways, she's stood that challenge and continues to strive for singing excellence.
You'll be able to catch a live performance closer to home next weekend (in the Philadelphia metro area) at THE REBEL restaurant in Wilmington Delaware. Click on the link for more details... or follow her on her MySpace page at http://myspace.com/nadjahsings
She's tryin to reach the 100,000 plays mark so the major labels will even "look" at her . So just open up her MySpace in a separate window and let her bless your ears, so she'll get a full credit listen.
Don't worry, it's not the electronically processed vocals you may be accustomed to hearing :) She has a strong pure voice....and won't make "diva" excuses if you ask her to sing on the drop of a dime
Be sure to follow her on Twitter also Twitter @Nadjahsings

Like what you see? ....or hear? Get the word out and Tweet this post (from the Comments section) She would appreciate the support

GOT URBAN PERSPECTIVE ??

Who is Dr. Niama Wiliams Ph.D. ?

A couple months ago I had the honor and pleasure of meeting Dr. Niama Leslie Williams Ph.D. or as she prefers to be called.. Dr. "Ni" (knee)
So, she will be referred to as such in all future mentions.
She is a Los Angeles native, now residing in the Norristown , Pa area. She's a nine time published author, amongst other mind blowing accomplishments.
I had the privilege of hearing her and her companion Rev. Joseph Massey, pictured here as well speak and read excerpts from their individual bookS, during a recent event at my church.
Each delivered powerful presentations, and took questions from the audience, as well as a meet and greet afterward.
I had been photogging the whole event, so it was during this meet and greet, that I introduced myself to both and exchanged business cards etc.
WELL.......!!! (LOL!!) Since that event, Dr. Ni has been one of my greatest supporters of what I'm trying to accomplish with my photography goals.
She not only contacts me for " photog gigs", she graciously did a little write up about me in her weekly newsletter to help promote me. :) God Bless her, and the good Rev. Joseph Massey.
I'm not one to really go tootin my own horn, so that's why I didn't really talk about her article on me at all. Don't get me wrong.... I appreciate the luv (and it is a great positive article) ... but I tend to be humble when it comes to mentioning my achievements and when others shower accolades on me. Nevertheless, you can search her newsletter space on her website, and I'm sure you'll find it there. If I can find the link, I'll include it .
Anyways, be sure to find out more about this amazing 9 time published author and achievements, as well as the achievements of equally accomplished Rev. Joseph Massey (don't tell no one, but I hope I can be as smooth & distinguished lookin when I reach his age )
I'm including a biography link from her website : Blowing Up Barriers

Who is Dr. Niama Williams PH.D.?

Dr. Ni does indeed Twitter, but probably not as frequently as she would like too, since she's busy with her professional endeavors writing, and counseling. But you can follow her on Twitter @DrNi

And for certain be sure to check out her BLOG TALK RADIO show : Poetry & Prose & Anything Goes with Dr. Ni It has a very Neo Soul vibe , so hope you have an open mind :)

One thing's for certain (hint hint) if you have the pleasure of befriending Dr. Ni., whether on a social networking site like twitter, myspace, etc. or in person. She is THE QUEEN of promotion and would do everything she can to help "get your name out there" if she sees your potential and your willingness to want to achieve your goals. (need I say... hint hint again LOL)

You can click right on the images to see the larger versions of these pics. These are two images I took when she contacted me for some portfolio shots.
